Chip and Joanna Gaines worked on a house with asbestos. "We got it inspected and we found out it had asbestos through the inspection" (click for video) Asbestos doesn't have to destroy your house, it doesn't mean that your house is going to be ugly. After asbestos is removed you can make your home-home again.
They bought a house which they were going to turn into a B&B. Chip and Joanna never even thought about the side carriage house until they had to fix it up. They inspected the it for asbestos and found it all over the carriage house. It was in the popcorn ceiling, the joint compound, and the texture in the walls. Instead of hiring a professional company to come in and do it. They found themselves able to remove it. So after suiting up, Chip dove in.
One of the most important actions to prevent being harmed from asbestos while doing removal, Chip noted, was to keep it wet. You wet it before you scrape or remove it, and then you scrape it down while continually keeping it wet. After it is all off the walls and ceiling, you wet it again. You double bag it and then send it off to a special EPA landfill. Chip Explained*.
"Every time you leave the project, you have to wash off on the way out." because "you want this stuff completely contained and taken to the landfill.
"The asbestos issue has really set us back about two weeks...As big of a pain as this was, it was worth every penny." Joanna said after they had finally finished the removal of the asbestos from the carriage house.
